Beaches in some areas of the Outer Banks remain closed due to damage caused by two dual hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean.
The entire beachfront from the north end of the village of Buxton to off-road vehicle (OVR) ramp 43, and the beach in the Village of Rodanthe, from East Point Drive south to Surf Drive, is currently closed, according to an update from the Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina.
Seashore deployed two dozen staff members to Buxton today to contribute to the significant cleanup efforts.
With limited resources due to the federal government shutdown, Seashore staff focused on collecting debris south of the collapse sites, between the southern end of the village and Cape Point.
Nine homes collapsed this week due to strong winds and rough surf from hurricanes Imelda and Humberto.
