My Christmas message: We need to stop following Trump’s lead on hating each other

My liberalism has me wanting Medicare for All, including MAGAs, because all of our lives are better if we all have access to the same level of healthcare as the 1 percent.

All of our lives are better if we all have the chance at a top-notch education.

All of our lives are better if we all have access to affordable housing.

To jobs that pay a living wage.

I don’t just want that for the people who vote for Democrats.

I get emails every day from MAGA folks who tell me how much they hate me, and why they tell me they hate me is never because of what I’m advocating for.

They’ve been led to believe that they’re supposed to hate liberals, and so, you know.

That’s OK; my goal in life is to drag them, so to speak, into the perimeter of wisdom.

I don’t want to tell them that they have to love their neighbor, even though, you know, so many of them claim to be Christians, and that’s the essential teaching of their guy, that you’re supposed to love your neighbor, be that neighbor an immigrant, a person of color, a trans kid, a liberal.

I just want everybody – myself and my neighbors, all of them, including MAGAs who hate me – to have the same chance at a good life as the superwealthy.

Not everybody sees it, sure, but we all need to be in this together, right?

That would be my Christmas message.

For another view on the yuletide:

“Merry Christmas to all, including the Radical Left Scum that is doing everything possible to destroy our Country, but are failing badly.”

This, of course, is the phrasing of Donald Trump.

People like me who aren’t on board with Christmas Eve deportations are “scum.”

You’re also “scum” if you’re not feeling the “Record Stock Market” because you’re not among the 21 percent of American households who directly own stocks.

“No Inflation”? You’re “scum” if you notice higher prices at the grocery store, apparently.

“Tariffs have given us Trillions of Dollars in Growth and Prosperity,” except that, the big employer in town just closed its doors, because its corporate parent lost its market due to retaliatory tariffs.

“Scum.”

Is this as exhausting to you as it is to me?

This guy can’t be a decent human being even on Christmas, but that’s who Donald Trump is.

Irredeemable.

He’s the “scum” here.

You don’t have to be.
