lynchburg hillcatsGreg Allen’s solo home run in the third inning gave Lynchburg a 1-0 lead, but Myrtle Beach answered with two in the bottom of the inning and another in the eighth to claim a 3-1 victory at TicketReturn.com Field Monday night.

Both starting pitchers dominated the opposition throughout the evening, but Greg Allen hit his first home run since August 8, 2015 to give Lynchburg a 1-0 lead with two outs in the third inning.

Myrtle Beach responded with two runs on three hits in the home half. Cael Brockmeyer doubled to begin the frame. Rashad Crawford tripled two batters later to tie the game, and he scored the go-ahead run on a two-out single by Ian Happ. The Pelicans tallied their final run in the eighth on a two-out solo home run by Crawford.

After only lasting one inning in his previous start, Mitch Brown (1-4) looked sharp all night against Myrtle Beach. He struck out eight, which was one shy of a career high, while only walking one. He only surrendered the two runs on four hits in six innings. It marked his second quality start of the season.

Zach Hedges controlled the Hillcats offense, holding them to one run on five hits in seven innings. The right-hander went seven innings for the third time in eight starts, striking out three during that time. Tommy Thorpe retired all six batters he faced out of the bullpen to earn his first save of the season.

Lynchburg failed to win a four-game series for the first time this year…The Hillcats had won at least three contests in each of their first four four-gamers, including one sweep…Lynchburg split this four-game series with Myrtle Beach, alternating wins and losses…Lynchburg has homered in five straight games.

Lynchburg opens a weeklong homestand with a Tuesday game against Wilmington at 6:30 p.m. Nick Pasquale (0-0, 4.32) will start for the Hillcats. Fans can listen to the action on 93.3 FM and 1320 AM as well as www.lynchburg-hillcats.com, beginning with the Hillcats On-Deck Show at 6:15 p.m.
