ACC Tournament Thursday: What to Watch For

storylogo2Five ranked teams will be in action on Thursday in the 2015 ACC Tournament quarterfinals, including #2 Duke and #3 UVA.

#13 Louisville and #19 North Carolina go head-to-head at 2:30. #9 Notre Dame finishes out the schedule at 9:30 p.m.

Wow, indeed.

Meanwhile, two NCAA Tournament bubble teams, NC State and Miami, survived tests in Wednesday’s second round, look to build on their resumes for Selection Sunday.

Yeah, should be a fun day here at the Greensboro Coliseum.

 

Thursday, noon #1 UVA (28-2, 16-2 ACC) vs. #9 Florida State (17-15, 9-10 ACC)

Regular season: UVA W 51-41 in Charlottesville on Feb. 22

Player to watch: Does Justin Anderson (13.4 ppg, 48.0% FG, 48.4% 3FG) return?

Added storyline: UVA needs at least a win in this one to solidify a #1 national seed

The winner gets: the winner of the Louisville-UNC game Friday at 7 p.m.

 

Thursday, 2 p.m. #4 Louisville (24-7, 12-6 ACC) vs. #5 North Carolina (22-10, 12-7 ACC)

Regular season: 1-1 (UNC W 72-72, Jan. 10, Louisville W 78-68 OT, Jan. 31)

Player to watch: Louisville F Montrezl Harrell (15.8 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 57.3% FG)

Added storyline: This is Louisville’s first ACC Tournament game.

The winner gets: the winner of UVA-Florida State, Friday, 7 p m.

 

Thursday, 7 p.m. #2 Duke (28-3, 15-3 ACC) vs. #7 NC State (20-12, 11-8 ACC)

Regular season: NC State W 87-75 in Raleigh on Jan. 11

Player to watch: Duke C Jahlil Okafor (17.6 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 66.2% FG)

Added storyline: Duke’s quest for a #1 seed vs. NC State’s quest to sew up an NCAA bid

The winner gets: the winner of Notre Dame-Miami, Friday, 9 p.m.

 

Thursday, 9 p.m. #3 Notre Dame (26-5, 14-4 ACC) vs. #6 Miami (21-11, 11-8 ACC)

Regular season: Notre Dame W 75-70 in South Bend on Jan. 17

Player to watch: Notre Dame G Jerian Grant (16.8 ppg, 6.7 apg, 49.4% FG)

Added storyline: Notre Dame would like to play its way into a #2 seed. Miami just wants to play its way in.

The winner gets: the winner of Duke-NC State, Friday, 9 p.m.
