virginia basketballSeventh-ranked Virginia opened the second half on a 13-2 run to break a halftime tie and rolled to a 73-53 win over NC State on Monday night.

The Cavs (21-5, 10-4 ACC) shot 6-of-9 from three-point range in the second half and led by as many as 24 after the third of three straight threes by London Perrantes, who connected on 5-of-8 from behind the arc on the night, 4-of-5 in the second half.

State (13-13, 3-10 ACC) hit its first six shots from the field and led 15-9 4:33 into the game, but the UVA defense eventually settled in, allowing the ‘Hoos to fight to a 31-all tie at the half.

An 8-0 run punctuated by an Anthony Gill dunk with 16:57 to go gave Virginia some breathing room, and it wouldn’t get closer than eight the rest of the way.

Virginia was 17-of-27 (63.0 percent) from the field in the second half and shot 53.7 percent (29-of-54) for the game.
State, after its blistening start, finished at 40.4 percent (19-of-47) from the floor for the night, and was 7-of-24 (29.2 percent) in the second half.

Malcolm Brogdon had 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field to lead UVA. Perrantes finished with 19 points and five assists.
Isaiah Wilkins had six points on 3-of-6 shooting and a career-high 13 rebounds.
