Harrisonburg: Greek community at JMU gives back

Fraternity and sorority philanthropies at James Madison University raised more than $67,000 for charitable causes and donated more than 15,000 hours to the Harrisonburg community in the spring 2008 semester.

“Students in Greek organizations at JMU take pride in everything they do and they actively seek out opportunities to assist those in need,” said Jill Courson, the assistant director in the JMU Office of Student Activities and Involvement. “The fraternity and sorority members’ desire and ability to come together and spend time in the community is a testament to their hard work and commitment to give back as members of the greater JMU and Harrisonburg community,” Courson said.

Organizations that have benefitted from the money and time donations from Greek organizations at JMU include the Boys and Girls Club, Mercy House and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
