Thistlethwaite joins staff at Augusta Health

Chris Graham

William Thistlethwaite, M.D., an internal medicine physician, has joined the Augusta Medical Group as a hospitalist at Augusta Health.

A hospitalist is a doctor who specializes in treating patients in the hospital.  Because he is onsite at the hospital, Dr. Thistlethwaite is a point of coordination between patients, physicians and families.  He can see patients more frequently, can follow-up with test results and treatments, and be more available to meet with family members.  Hospitalists work with the patients’ primary care physicians and other specialists to make sure patients get the best care possible while in the hospital.

After graduating from Amherst College, Dr. Thistlethwaite attended the University of Chicago as part of their Neurobiology Graduate Program.  He went to medical school at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.  Dr. Thistlethwaite completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Virginia in the Hospitalist Track.

Dr. Thistlethwaite has published several articles and has been a Teaching Assistant at the University of Chicago, Pritzker Medical School and a lecturer at Columbia College.

Augusta Health is an independent, nonprofit community hospital whose mission is to promote the health and well-being of our community through access to excellent care.  Named one of the 100 Top Hospitals in America by Thomson Reuters in both 2011 and 2012, Augusta Health has also been nationally recognized by HealthGrades as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for clinical excellence and patient safety.
