Two undying themes in the now completed four-game series between the Salem Red Sox and the Winston-Salem Dash: Lots of scoring, and lopsided final tallies. On Thursday, the Dash crushed the Sox 12-5, sealing a series split. Games in the series were decided by a combined 29 runs.

Supreme Court strikes down key provision of Voting Rights Act

A 5-4 ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court handed down today has struck down a key provision of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. The court, split along ideological lines, ruled that Congress had used obsolete reasoning in requiring several Southern states to get federal approval for voting rules changes affecting blacks and other minorities.

Salem Red Sox outslugged by Wilmington, 11-7

The Wilmington Blue Rocks offense overpowered the Salem Red Sox in Saturday’s 11-7 victory at Frawley Stadium. The Rocks led 8-0 after two innings, chasing Salem starter Kyle Stroup from the action before he could complete the second. Wilmington starter Sam Selman finally experienced success against the Sox, dealing five scoreless to earn the win, with Wilmington’s bullpen delivering a shaky but satisfactory performance to hang on down the stretch.
