Waynesboro city officials are hoping this is a big week with respect to progress on the downtown streetscape project. An email from city planning director Michael Barnes indicated that the focus of work this week will be on milling and repaving Wayne Avenue, finishing the installation of brick pavers in front of the LB&B building and the tree pits along Wayne.

WTA’s Gateway in Waynesboro will bring The Concise Dickens’ Christmas Carol as part of WTA’s Holiday entertainment. The seasonal favorite of Hampton Roads’ audiences will be presented on Friday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 14. The acting troupe of Ebenezer Scrooge and Co. is in the single person of actor/writer D.D. Delaney, who plays 22 roles.

You’ve no doubt seen the Kmart Joe Boxer ad. Male models in tuxes, and boxers, playing a bell choir as if inspired by Elvis Presley. The Waynesboro Family YMCA is riffing off the viral video to promote its Black Friday membership drive. “We were looking for a fun way to get the word out,” said Jeff Fife, the executive director of the Waynesboro Y.

I thought about pitching an idea at the Jumpstart Waynesboro event last week. First, for those who missed out on what Jumpstart Waynesboro even is, it’s a partnership with the Staunton Creative Community Fund using $20,000 in state grant money to help push creative, sustainable entrepreneurship ideas in our River City.
