Waynesboro Police Department investigating rash of vehicle thefts

The Waynesboro Police Department is investigating the theft of three vehicles that occurred in the city sometime early Christmas morning or late Christmas Eve. Officers were first called to the scene of a crash in the 200 block of South Forest Avenue at approximately 4 a.m. involving a 1999 Ford Expedition and a parked 2009 Hyundai.

The Waynesboro Police Department is requesting assistance in locating a Waynesboro man wanted on numerous felonies for fraud. Michael Paul Bennett, 19, originally of Waynesboro, is wanted for eight counts of obtaining money by false pretenses. It is believed he is staying at the Hunter’s Ridge Apartments in Harrisonburg.

Waynesboro police: Nearly 50 vehicle break-ins since Thanksgiving

The Waynesboro Police Department is cautioning citizens and city travelers of the ongoing threat of vehicle burglaries during the holidays. Since Thanksgiving, the Police Department has received nearly 50 calls for service regarding a vehicle being entered and valuables being stolen. Most of these incidents happen in groups and are usually situated in the same area of the city.
