On Saturday, Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. until noon, the Augusta County Historical Society is sponsoring Staunton storyteller and folk musician Bill Wellington in a program on the second floor of the R.R. Smith Center for History & Art. Wellington is hoping that his program, “Poetic Justice,” will finally give this Revolutionary patriot his just due.

UVa. women’s basketball escapes with a 61-60 victory at Liberty

The Virginia women’s basketball team (3-1) earned a 61-60 victory at Liberty (0-3) Lynchburg. After Liberty tied the game with 38.2 seconds remaining, Virginia senior guard Ataira Franklin drove baseline with the shot clock winding down, getting fouled in the process. After missing her first free throw, she made the second to give UVa. a one-point edge with 11.3 seconds remaining.

Virginia rolls to easy 67-42 win over Navy

Anthony Gill had 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting, Joe Harris had 16 on 7-of-8 shooting, and Virginia dominated the boards against a smaller Navy team en route to posting a 67-42 win Tuesday in Charlottesville. UVa. (3-1) went on a 13-0 run to open up a 30-12 lead at the 2:01 mark of the first half. Navy (2-3) didn’t get any closer than 14 the rest of the way.

UVa. artificial pancreas project receives $3.4 million grant

A high-tech project to turn an ordinary smart phone into an artificial pancreas that could transform the lives of people with type 1 diabetes has received a $3.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health. The money will fund a new network approach to artificial pancreas design using distributed computing between local and Cloud systems.
