The UVa. women’s basketball team (3-3) could not hold on to a halftime lead, falling to No. 3 Tennessee (6-0), 76-67, in the opening game of the Junkanoo Jam Tournament on Grand Bahama Island on Thanksgiving Day.

Remember when Logan Thomas was a sure-fire first-round NFL draft pick? Thomas had a banner year as a sophomore at Virginia Tech, when he threw for 3,013 yards and accounted for 30 touchdowns. Hard as it is to believe, Thomas’ numbers two years later are not that much better than the much-maligned David Watford at UVa.

UVa. broke open a tight game with a 23-0 first-half run en route to blasting Hampton, 69-40, on Tuesday in Charlottesville. The Cavs (5-1) got off to a sluggish start against the Pirates. A jumper by Hampton’s Dionte Adams at the 9:59 mark tied the game at 16. A Joe Harris three-pointer on Virginia’s next possession gave UVa. the lead, but it was still 19-16 ‘Hoos at the 7:48 media timeout.

The Virginia women’s basketball team (3-2) suffered a 68-58 road loss to West Virginia (4-1) at the WVU Coliseum on Sunday. The Cavaliers found most of their offense from beyond the arc, making 10 three-pointers, shooting 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from long range. Senior guard Ataira Franklin had the first 20-point game of the season for the Cavaliers, finishing with 23.

Brandon Taylor scored a game-high 25 points, including 16 in the second half, to lead Penn State University of the Big Ten Conference to a 93-67 men’s basketball victory past Longwood University on Sunday afternoon at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park.

Hydraulic fracturing (known as “fracking”) is a method of causing fissures in underground shale rock formations to facilitate the extraction of otherwise inaccessible natural gas and oil. In a typical fracking operation, drillers inject a mixture of pressurized water and chemicals underground to fracture the rock and free up the gas and oil.
