Waynesboro Public Library is commemorating the art of long-time Waynesboro resident Ray Yoder with a special program and art exhibit. The program takes place on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. and will be given by Yoder’s son, judge Ronnie Yoder.

The art exhibit, encompassing his career of 65 years, is on display for the whole month of October with works on both floors of the library. He painted primarily in watercolors.

Locally, Yoder was a founding member of the Shenandoah Valley Art Center and well-known as a teacher of art, crafts, and photography in the Waynesboro Public Schools. He also instructed courses in art, crafts, painting, and photography for the University of Virginia Division of Continuing Education and art education courses at Bridgewater College.

Yoder was also a president of the Virginia Art Association and a chairman of the National Art Education Association, Elementary Division. In addition, he wrote many articles for professional art magazines and authored a book, Sculpture and Modeling for the Elementary School.
