Women’s Basketball: Virginia, again, not competitive, in 95-54 loss at #3 Notre Dame

Virginia wasn’t all that good against a pretty weak nonconference slate. Sunday’s 95-54 loss to #3 Notre Dame was the second blowout loss for the Cavaliers to a Top 10 team.

The other: a 95-51 loss at then-#10 Oklahoma on Nov. 8.

This one drops UVA to an 8-6 record and 0-2 in ACC play, with the meat of the ACC schedule to come.

There’s not much to say about the loss in South Bend. Notre Dame (11-2, 2-0 ACC) led 25-9 at the end of one, 43-19 at the break, and 69-32 going into the fourth.

Notre Dame got a triple-double from Olivia Miles (11 points, 10 rebounds, 14 assists), with Hannah Hidalgo (28 points) and Sonia Citron (25 points) leading the way in buckets.

Virginia got 12 points from Kymora Johnson, and 10 points and seven rebounds from Breona Hurd.

It’s not a good look for third-year coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton, 31-31 in her first two years, whose 2024-2025 team is currently projected, by WarrenNolan.com, to finish 10-20.
