UNC Basketball alum Seth Trimble, who played in the NBA Summer League last month, and has seen that the market for his services at the next level isn’t there, will try his hand at going back to college for another year, but not at UNC.
Assuming the federal court ruling granting an extra year of eligibility to athletes from the 2026 graduating class holds up, Trimble is headed to Louisville, supposedly because he decided there was a logjam at guard at his alma mater.

Louisville already has five established guards on its 2026-2027 roster: three transfers (Jackson Shelstad/Oregon, Karter Knox/Arkansas, De’Shayne Montgomery/Dayton), three-year G League veteran London Johnson, who was also once a former top UVA Basketball recruiting target, plus returnee Adrian Wooley, who averaged 8.7 points per game in 22.4 minutes per game for the Cardinals last season.
Adding Trimble to the mix gives third-year Louisville coach Pat Kelsey six rather established guards to try to find minutes for.
Looking at Louisville’s 2025-2026 season stats, Kelsey was able to get 20-plus minutes per game out of five guards; the sixth, senior Kobe Rodgers, averaged 14.3 minutes per.
Who among the four transfers, the G League guy and the returning guy is going to want to be Kobe Rodgers this season?
Over at UNC, first-year coach Michael Malone has a nice starting backcourt trio to work with – Utah transfer Terrence Brown, NC State transfer Matt Able and Virginia Tech transfer Neoklis Avdalas – but after that, it’s smoke and mirrors, spit and tape.
Outside looking in, Malone would have figured out a way to find some money and some minutes for Seth Trimble.
