UVA Basketball fans are set to get a double dose of Kentucky this fall, with the news on Thursday that the women’s team will face the Wildcats in the espnW Invitational on Sunday, Dec. 20, at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
The game is part of a doubleheader, with UConn-LSU as the main event.
Don’t overlook the UVA-UK game, though – both programs enter the 2026-2027 season fresh off their first Sweet 16 appearances in more than a decade.
“We look forward to being a part of this high-level event on a national stage,” first-year UVA head women’s basketball coach Aaron Roussell said, in a statement highlighted in a release from UVA Athletics on Thursday.
“The opportunity to showcase our program against such a powerful opponent will be a great measuring stick for this new and young team. Our goal is to play against the nation’s best and to be grouped with these top programs for many events like this in the future,” Roussell said.
The men’s team will face Kentucky in JPJ as part of the SEC/ACC Challenge on Wednesday, Dec. 2.
