Donald Trump, in the last 24 hours, issued a threat to “bomb the shit” out of Oman, a key U.S. ally in the Middle East, and sided with North Korea – a Communist dictatorship with whom we are still officially at war – in a dispute with our ally, South Korea.
Huh, whuh?
“President Trump is increasingly deranged in his one-man campaign to threaten and initiate wars all over the globe,” said U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, who signaled today that he will introduce legislation prohibiting military action against Oman as soon as we return from August recess, and that he hopes “to find some Republican colleagues to join with Democrats and check this blindly stumbling power-drunk president from inflicting more damage on the U.S. and the world.”
Good luck there, Tim – your Republican colleagues are hopelessly all-in with the blindly stumbling power-drunk president.
They just confirmed his consigliere to be the Attorney General of the United States, for god’s sake.
Oman?
It’s not entirely clear why Trump would want to “bomb the shit” out of Oman, which he’s threatened before, though it seems to have something to do with the president’s attempt to claim the Strait of Hormuz, which borders both Oman and Iran, as U.S. territory.
Rumors have reached Washington to the effect that Oman is ready to strike a separate deal with Iran to reopen the strait.
Oman is denying the stories making the rounds.
Trump, for his part, thinks he can just threaten to bomb people who don’t do his bidding for him, and that will just bring people in line.
And yet, we’re coming up on six months of the 48-hour war with Iran – and now Trump is picking a fight with an ally that has been helping keep Iran in check.
“His threat to waste even more of our dwindling weapons on Oman – a country the United States has a strong diplomatic relationship and a free trade agreement with – makes real adversaries like China and Russia rub their hands with glee,” Kaine said.
The Art of the Deal, indeed.
Korea
Trump let himself, years ago, get seduced by North Korean Communist dictator Kim Jong Un, who knows enough to flatter His Flatulency with various petards that he could hoist himself from.
I relate that to you as prelude to this comment that Trump posted online about planned joint military exercises with South Korea, a key ally in Asia for 76 years.
Based on my very good relationship with Kim Jong Un, of North Korea, I am not happy with the fact that the United States has, long ago, agreed to participate in Joint Military Exercises with South Korea. These exercises are not only costly, with much of these costs paid for by the United States of America (as usual!), but send a signal that is totally inappropriate and hostile, to a Country that, as long as Donald J. Trump has been President, has been unthreatening and respectful.
Dumbass.
“Holy crap! This one even surprised me, Trump deciding that he’s going to side with North Korea and downgrade military exercises with South Korea,” said U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, in comments made in a video posted to Facebook on Monday.
“Isn’t this the same North Korea that has been helping Putin in his war against Ukraine? Isn’t this the same Kim Jong Un who all of the West has thought for ages was a rogue state, somebody who spends billions in crypto crimes? Donald Trump’s new bestie, Kim Jong Un. Well, he’s always had another bestie, Vladimir Putin. Whose side is he really on?” Warner said.
Not ours.
