It’s feeling like Trevor Dunbar is more than the interim with UVA Track and Field, with today’s news that Dunbar hired a new assistant, Sam Bradley, away from Radford.
Bradley was the head cross country coach at Radford for eight years before being promoted to associate head track and field coach before the start of the 2025 season.
“Throughout my deliberate search, Sam Bradley quickly rose to the top of my potential candidates. Sam’s passion for the sport, attention to detail and ability to foster a positive team culture will make him a great match for our program,” Dunbar said in a statement from UVA Athletics.
Dunbar was named the interim head coach of the UVA Track and Field program on July 31, after Vin Lananna, the director of the track and field and cross country program at UVA since 2019, was named the CEO of the USA Track and Field Foundation .
Bradley seems like a solid add to the staff, from his resume – he was the Big South Coach of the Year in 2020 and 2021, and before his tenure at Radford, he spent five seasons at Bradley (no, that’s not a typo) helping the program to four Missouri Valley Cross Country Championships.
“I would like to offer a huge thanks to Coach Dunbar for the confidence and belief he has shown in me and to the whole track and field and cross country staff for being so gracious and welcoming into the program,” Bradley said in a statement. “It is truly an honor to work within a program that is steeped in such tradition and success, and I am incredibly excited to begin this new venture with the Cavaliers and to work alongside this incredible team and staff.”
