UVA Football: Shaquille O’Neal in town for pre-season opener DJ set

Shaquille O’Neal, in his guise as “DJ Diesel,” is going to be on Grounds for the UVA Football season opener on Saturday, Aug. 29, to perform a pregame DJ set for UVA students.

I guess us olds can stand on the periphery and hear what we can hear, but, sorry, admission is, students-only.

The concert will be held on the green space at the base of Observatory Hill with a 1 p.m. start time.

It’ll be hip hop-heavy, like you needed me to tell you that.

I was at Camden Yards a couple of years back for a DJ Diesel post-Baltimore Orioles game show, and, good show, fun time.

Now, that said, I’m the same age as The Diesel, with similar musical tastes, trending toward hip hop, but, have to admit, I didn’t know much from the playlist.

No biggie. It was loud, which is all that mattered.

It’s as much the spectacle of Shaq spinning tunes for the masses as anything else that is the appeal here.

Imagine Michael Jordan doing something like this, for example.

It’s what those of us who love Shaq love about Shaq – that he doesn’t have a stick up his ass, like other millionaire athletes.
