03_t.jpgRepublican Jill Holtzman Vogel has earned the endorsement of The Washington Post in her 27th Senate District against Democrat Karen Schultz.
The editorial endorsing Vogel that appeared in today’s editions of the Post noted her involvement in state and local affairs and her service to the Bush-Cheney campaign during the 2000 Florida recount and her service to the GOP in the 2004 presidential campaign.
“Articulate, fast on her feet and pragmatic, she is the sort of moderate Republican that has become scarce in Richmond,” the editorial read.
“Her opponent, Democrat Karen Schultz, is a respected, hardworking educator, school board member and community leader but lacks Mrs. Vogel’s spark and command of state issues,” the editorial read.
The paper also offered endorsements in seven other Virginia Senate races, tapping Democrat Albert Pollard over Republican Richard Stuart in the 28th, Democrat Charles Colgan over Bob FitzSimmonds in the 29th, Democrat Mary Margaret Whipple over independent Samuel Burley in the 31st, Democrat Mark Herring over Republican Patricia Phillips in the 33rd, Republican Jeannemarie Devolites Davis over Democrat Chap Petersen in the 34th, Democrat Dick Saslaw over independent Mario Palmiotto in the 35th, and Democrat George Barker over Republican Jay O’Brien in the 39th.
The Post decided against endorsing a candidate in the 37th between Republican Ken Cuccinelli and Democrat Janet Oleszek.
