uva womens basketballOn Sunday (Dec. 28) and Monday (Dec. 29), the Virginia women’s basketball team will finish off its 2014 non-conference schedule by hosting the 2014 Cavalier Classic Tournament, presented by the Holiday Inn University Area.

The Cavalier games will be broadcast on WINA-1070 AM with Channing Poole and Myron Ripley calling the action.

This year, the annual Cavalier Classic tournament will have set match-ups as opposed to a pure “classic” format with Drexel (5-4) and Miami (OH) (2-7) opening the tournament at 12 noon on Sunday before Virginia takes on Davidson (3-8) at 2:30 p.m. On Monday, Miami (OH) and Davidson will play at 4:30 p.m. followed by Virginia and Drexel at 7 p.m.  An All-Tournament Team will still be announced, but there will not be a tournament champion.

Virginia is 7-0 at home this season, following three wins the week before Christmas. At JPJ this year, UVa is shooting 47.3 percent while opponents are only making 33.4 percent of their shots. Virginia is also winning its home games by an average margin of 23.1 points.

Junior Faith Randolph (Derwood, Md.) averaged 20.0 points per game in the three contests before Christmas, posting the first back-to-back 20-point games of her career against Saint Mary’s (20) and Howard (26). Senior center Sarah Imovbioh (Abuja, Nigeria) also had a 20-point game against Howard, scoring 21 points, which along with 10 rebounds, gave her the sixth double-double of the season and the 19th of her career. It was the second time this season that two Cavaliers had 20-point performances in the same game as Randolph and sophomore guard Breyana Mason (Woodbridge, Va.) both passed that threshold in the season-opener against Ohio State.

Imovbioh, who is second in the ACC in shooting percentage, went 22-of-31 (70.9 percent) from the field in the three games last week, including going 9-of-11 against Howard.

Virginia is 1-0 against Davidson and 1-0 against Drexel. The Cavaliers defeated the Wildcats, 83-68, in 2007 and UVa downed the Dragons, 63-54, in 2010.

Davidson (3-8) has lost its last six games, including falling 82-66 to NC State earlier this month. Hannah Early leads the team, averaging 14.7 points per game. Mackenzie Latt, the Wildcats’ other player averaging double-figures this season (12.0 ppg), leads the team in rebounding at 8.1 per game.

Drexel (5-4) is coming off a 67-58 victory over Penn. This will also be their second game of the year against an ACC school, with the Dragons falling 72-53 to Pitt on Dec. 14. Sarah Curran leads the team, averaging 13.7 points per game.

Virginia opens ACC action on Sunday, Jan. 4 when they play at Virginia Tech at 2 p.m. The Cavaliers are back at John Paul Jones Arena on Thursday, Jan. 8 when they host Wake Forest at 7 p.m.

Single-game ticket prices for all home games are $10 for Reserved seating, $8 for adult General Admission and $6 for youth (18 & under), senior (60 & over) and UVa faculty/staff General Admission.
