UVA women’s basketball at #4 Louisville on Sunday

The UVA women’s basketball team (13-4, 3-1 ACC) plays at No. 4 Louisville (16-1, 4-0 ACC) on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 3 p.m. at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky.

The game will be televised live on the ACC Regional Sports Networks (FOX Sports South/FOX Sports Carolinas, FOX Sports Florida, FOX Sports Midwest Plus/FOX Sports Indiana Plus, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, MSG Plus, NESN, ROOT Sports Pittsburgh, SportsTime Ohio, FOX Sports Detroit, FOX Sports North, FOX Sports Wisconsin, FOX Sports West, ROOT Sports Northwest, ROOT Sports Rocky Mtn) and streamed online on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app with Drew Deener and Christy Winters Scott calling the action.

The radio broadcast will be available on WINA-1070 AM with Channing Poole and Larry Johnson calling the action.

This will be the second time in the last three games that Virginia has faced a ranked opponent on the road. The Cavaliers fell 70-58 at No. 21 Syracuse last Sunday (Jan. 11).

The Louisville game is the first of back-to-back road contests against the conference’s No. 1 teams. Louisville and next Wednesday’s opponent, Miami, are both currently 4-0 in the ACC.

Virginia, currently tied for fourth in the ACC, is coming off a 68-56 victory over BC on Thursday night.

The Cavaliers shot 50.0 percent from three-point range against the Eagles, making 13 of 26 long-range shots, one make shy of tying the program record for made-threes in a game. It was the third time this season that the Cavaliers made 10 or more three-pointers in a game. Virginia has made a conference-best 38 three-pointers in ACC games and is second with a 40.4 three-point shooting percentage.

Junior guard Faith Randolph (Derwood, Md.) and sophomore guard Breyana Mason (Woodbridge, Va.) each made four three-pointers, with Randolph going 4-of-6 and Mason 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Randolph is averaging 2.1 made-threes per game this season, ranking sixth in the ACC.

Freshman guard Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va.) made three treys, giving her a conference-best 14 three-point baskets in ACC contests.

In addition to scoring 12 points, Mason also dished seven assists, matching her career high, while only committing one turnover. Mason ranks second in the ACC in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.3.

This is the second-ever meeting between the Virginia and Louisville and the first time they will meet as conference foes. The two teams will play one another again in the regular-season finale on March 1 at John Paul Jones Arena.

Louisville’s only loss this season was a 77-68 setback at home against then-ranked No. 13 Kentucky. Louisville dispatched NC State, 68-58, on Wednesday night to improve to 10-1 at the KFC Yum! Center this season. The Cardinals are averaging 45.6 points per game in the paint (776 this season). Louisville ranks in the top 25 nationally in nine Division I statistical categories. The Cardinals are in the top 10 in six areas (won-lost percentage, scoring margin, scoring offense, field-goal percentage, assists per game, and turnover margin).

The Cardinals have a balanced scoring attack with Mariya Moore leading the team with a 13.9 points-per-game average and 16.3 points per game in ACC contests. The Cardinals also have balanced rebounding with four players averaging more than five rebounds per game and two others averaging 4.7 or more.

Virginia finishes off its current two-game road trip by playing at Miami on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.

Virginia will be back at John Paul Jones Arena on Sunday, Jan. 25, hosting Georgia Tech at 2 p.m. The National Girls and Women in Sports Day game will feature a halftime ceremony honoring former Cavalier Meghan O’Leary as well as a free pregame sports festival from 12:30-1:45 that includes seven sports stations for youth to visit. Children completing all seven stations will receive a complimentary t-shirt. Admission to the festival is free with a game ticket.
