UVA football: Mike London addresses future

Chris Graham

mike london accUVA football coach Mike London, asked at his Monday press conference to address his future, chose to focus on the short term.

“The biggest thing right now for me is dealing with focusing on all opportunities for these seniors,” said London, who will wrap his fourth straight losing season with a pair of home games, against Duke on Saturday and against Virginia Tech on Nov. 28.

The loss this past Saturday at Louisville dropped the Cavs to 3-7 on the season, and all but guaranteed that London will not be back for the final year on his contract in 2016.

London’s teams are 26-45 in his six seasons, with just one winning season, an 8-5 mark in 2011.

There are still a few things to play for with the 2015 season winding down. Virginia has lost its last three games with Duke, and its last 11 games with in-state rival Virginia Tech.

Wins in both to finish out the season would bring the ‘Hoos to .500 in ACC play, something they haven’t done in four years.

“Getting ready for Duke, finishing up the last two games at home here, all of those things are paramount on my mind, and having giving them an opportunity to be successful on the way out,” London said. “A lot of these guys will play football probably for the last time. I know there’s NFL aspirations and things like that, but there will be a lot of things longer than they’ll be a football player, so my focus is to be an influence on that.”
