It’s pretty clear now that UVA Basketball alum Ty Jerome is hitting the free-agent market come next week.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have already moved on from the idea of being able to retain Jerome, who enjoyed a career renaissance this past season, who averaged 12.5 points per game and finished third in the Sixth Man of the Year voting this past season.
Jerome did all of that on the back end of a two-year deal that paid him $2.5 million for the 2024-2025 season.
The industry expectation is that Jerome, who turns 28 on July 8, will get in the range of $14.1 million per, the full midrange exception, on his next deal.
The Cavs, who had the best record in the East in the regular season, finishing 64-18, before being eliminated in the conference semifinals by Indiana, used a second-round pick on Duke point guard Tyrese Proctor on Thursday, then acquired former #2 overall pick Lonzo Ball from the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.
Ball, who turns 28 in October, averaged 7.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists this past season, is set to make $10 million in the coming season, with a team option for the 2026-2027 season.
