UVA Baseball: #9 Virginia beats #24 Wake Forest, 14-4, to clinch weekend series

#9 Virginia notched its third straight ACC weekend series win with a 14-4 run-rule win over #24 Wake Forest on Sunday.

Virginia (20-5, 6-3 ACC) got three hits each from leadoff man Eric Becker and catcher Jake Weatherspoon, and a four-RBI day from first baseman Sam Harris.

DH Kyle Johnson had a three-run homer for the ’Hoos, his third homer of the season.

Starting pitcher John Paone, a freshman, was knocked out after 3.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits.

Reliever Noah Yoder, he of the fastball that touches 99 mph, got the win in relief, striking out one and allowing one hit in 2.2 innings of work.
