Update: 33-year-old man dead in early-morning shooting in Waynesboro

A 33-year-old man is dead after a shooting this morning in the 400 block of James Avenue in Waynesboro.

Trevor Hill, 33, of Waynesboro, was found deceased on the front porch of the residence at 9:02 a.m.

A second person, Jacob Preston Sipe, 23, also of Waynesboro, was found by responding officers suffering from injuries. Sipe was transported to Augusta Health for medical treatment.

Following his release from the hospital, Sipe was arrested in connection with the earlier shooting.

Sipe was charged with two felonies:

  • 18.2-32(F) – 2nd degree murder
  • 18.2-53.1(F) – Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony

According to the Waynesboro Police Department, officers initially responded to a report of the discharge of a weapon. The preliminary investigation found Hill deceased.

A heavy police presence was in the vicinity of the incident throughout the day.

Sipe is held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
