Turks top Waynesboro Generals, 11-4

Chris Graham

A seven-run third knocked out Devin Smith, and Harrisonburg cruised to an 11-4 win over the Waynesboro Generals Monday night.

The win draws the Turks to within two games of the Generals in the South Division and prevents Waynesboro from clinching the division title for at least one more day.

Harrisonburg hosts Covington at 2 p.m. and Staunton at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Waynesboro is idle on Tuesday and travels to Rockbridge on Wednesday for a regular-season-ending doubleheader.

All Waynesboro needs to clinch the division is a loss by Harrisonburg on Tuesday or a win at Rockbridge on Wednesday.

But the chance was there on Monday, and Waynesboro led 2-0 after a first-inning RBI double by Brandon Murray and a third-inning RBI triple by Caleb Palensky. The seven-spot in the bottom of the third knocked out Smith (4-1) and cleared the way for Harrisonburg starter Jordan Priddle (1-1), who gave up three runs on seven hits in six and a third innings.
