Remember when Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg was the NL Cy Young Award front-runner? That was so three starts ago.
Strasburg was roughed up, to say the very least, again on Wednesday in a 12-10 loss at Colorado.
Strasburg (15-4, 3.59 ERA, 1.11 WHIP) gave up nine runs – nine! – on nine hits in an inning and two-thirds, striking out three and walking three.
Over his last three starts dating back to Aug. 1, all Nats losses, the right-hander has surrendered 19 earned runs on 24 hits in 11.2 innings for a 14.66 ERA.
His season ERA has ballooned from 2.80 to 3.59 in that span.
That was the bad news. The good news is that Bryce Harper seems to be getting back on track, hitting a two-run homer on a 2-for-4 day.
Harper (.241/.383/.455, 21 HR, 62 RBI) was 5-for-11 with four walks in the series at Colorado.
Chris Heisey (7) and Pedro Severino (1) also homered for the Nationals (70-49), who trailed 9-2 after two innings.
Trea Turner, Anthony Rendon and Brian Goodwin each had two hits for Washington, which outhit the Rockies 13-12.
