Staunton to begin heavy trash pickup

The Staunton Public Works Department will again this year provide a citywide free heavy trash pickup program. The aim of the effort is to help residents dispose of items that cannot be disposed of by the normal refuse pickup.

The heavy trash/brush pickup, which is scheduled for the week of April 18-22, will be limited to household items and yard trimmings. Excluded from the pickup are stumps, rocks, concrete, old vehicles, building material and tires. No hazardous waste or hazardous materials such as car batteries, solvents, oil base paints, or pesticides will be collected. Residents must place items streetside no later than 7:30 a.m. on Monday, April 18.

Staunton’s Clean City Committee is also sponsoring a special tire disposal program again this year. On Saturday, April 23, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., tires can be delivered to the Gypsy Hill Park Football Stadium Parking Lot. Tires must be car/pickup size only, be off the rim, and there is a limit of four per household. There will be no curbside pickup of tires; tires must be delivered to the drop-off site.
