Staunton: Shots fired on West Beverley, suspect charged with attempted murder

A Staunton man responsible for the shooting today in Staunton faces charges for attempted murder for shooting into an occupied building as well as possession of drugs and a firearm, according to the Staunton Police Department.

Wilfredo Emmanuel Vazquez-Velazquez, 33, of Staunton, was arrested and has been charged with attempted murder in the second degree, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shoot into an occupied dwelling, two counts of discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle, two counts of brandishing a firearm, shooting a firearm in a public place, possession of a schedule I/II drug, and possession of a firearm while in possession of a schedule I/II drug.

The incident took place in the 1700 block of West Beverley Street. There were no injuries.

Vazquez-Velazquez is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.

Staunton started off the month of October with a bang with shots fired near the Salvation Army location around 1:30 p.m. today.

The Staunton Police Department responded to the call in the 1700 block of West Beverley Street.

One suspect was identified and taken into custody. The suspect’s name was not released by police.

There were no reports of injuries.

There is no further threat to the community, according to the SPD.

Investigators are on location and processing the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
