Staunton Senior Center’s Local Council met to discuss a variety of topics. Chairman Michael Thompson reported to members about his attendance at the VPAS advisory committee meeting earlier in the week.

ssc-headerHe also spoke about the need for members to decide on a second fundraising event. There were three suggestions; a mystery theater dinner, a travel/event auction and a wine tasting. Most members felt the mystery theater dinner fit best and Thompson said he would get in touch with the local person who runs the dinners.

Center Director Lynn Harris then explained the next step in the council member recruitment process. She handed out prospective member forms and asked for one to three names from each member for the next meeting.

Lori Pullin, program director, discussed the upcoming SAIL (Stay Active & Independent for Life) program that will start at SSC on Tuesday, Feb. 4. The program is more intensive than previous exercise programs and includes balance, strength and cardio training.

The council’s next meeting will take place Thursday, Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. in the Center. All are welcome.
