Staunton | Local man in custody on attempted murder charge in shooting on Gray Avenue

A Staunton man is in custody in connection with a shooting on Gray Avenue reported on Saturday morning.

Charles Ray Smith, 44, was apprehended in Norfolk, and faces an attempted murder charge and two counts of aggravated malicious wounding, among others, in connection with the shooting, which led to an adult male victim being transported to UVA Hospital.

The investigation remains ongoing.
