Salem Red Sox to host tribute to Alison Parker, Adam Ward

Chris Graham

parker wardLast August, WDBJ7 news reporter Alison Parker and photojournalist Adam Ward were tragically lost while performing their duties on location at Smith Mountain Lake. To help honor the memories of two bright stars in the industry, the Salem Red Sox will be hosting a Tribute to Alison and Adam Night at LewisGale Field on Saturday, July 30th.

As part of the tribute, the Red Sox will be wearing special WDBJ7 jerseys. Instead of the typical red, white and blue color scheme, the white jerseys will feature maroon lettering with a teal outline, representing the favorite colors of Adam and Alison. Additionally, every member of the Red Sox will have either Adam or Alison’s name on the nameplate above the number on the back of the jersey.

The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a maroon and teal remembrance ribbon pins. In addition, all fans are encouraged to wear either maroon or teal to help honor Adam and Alison.

WDBJ7 staff members will be hosting a company picnic prior to the 6:05 pm first pitch and also will be conducting the on-field promotions throughout the game.

The special jerseys will be auctioned off via a silent auction and taken off the players back after the game. All proceeds from the jersey auction will be donated to the Adam Ward Memorial Scholarship at Salem High School and the “For Allison” Foundation.

Additionally, fans can purchase a replica jersey in advance for $75, with the proceeds also benefitting the scholarships. All replica jerseys will have the number “7” and can be customized to have Adam and/or Alison’s name on the nameplate. To order a replica jersey, visit salemsox.formstack.com/forms/wdbj7_jerseys. Orders must be made by June 15th to ensure delivery by July 30th.

Leave Dianna Russini alone: Sportswriters, coaches, happen to like hot tubs

I’m totally on the side of Dianna Russini in this generated controversy over her being caught holding hands, hugging and lounging in a hot tub with New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel. Seriously, what sportswriter isn’t holding hands, hugging and lounging in hot tubs with coaches they cover? Just last week, for instance, Ryan Odom,...
