Robert Hurt statement on selection of Longwood University to host 2016 vice presidential debate

Chris Graham

2016Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) released the following statement after the news that Longwood University will host the only vice presidential debate for the 2016 election.

“I applaud the Commission on Presidential Debates for its selection of Longwood University as the host of the Vice Presidential debate on October 4, 2016.  This is excellent news for Longwood University and the Farmville and Prince Edward County community, and I am pleased that the Commission recognized the value of selecting Longwood as a venue.  Virginia has played a central role in our nation’s debates since its founding, and it will again host a dialogue vital to our democratic process.

“I was pleased to be able to work with the rest of our Virginia Congressional Delegation to advocate to the Commission for Longwood’s selection.  I thank my colleagues for their efforts, and I commend President Reveley and the Longwood board for the leadership that brings us to this proud day.  I look forward to this important and historic event taking place right here in Virginia’s Fifth District.”
