Malcolm Brogdon adds Senior CLASS First-Team honor

Virginia’s Malcolm Brogdon (Atlanta, Ga.) was named to the 2015-16 Senior CLASS All-America first team, announced late Thursday (March 31) at the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championship, part of Final Four Weekend in Houston, Texas.

Brogdon joined Senior CLASS Award winner Denzel Valentine (Michigan State), Ryan Arcidiacono (Villanova), Buddy Hield (Oklahoma) and Justin Sears (Yale) on the first team.

Perry Ellis (Kansas), Georges Niang (Iowa State), Marcus Paige (North Carolina), Fred VanVleet (Wichita State) and Kyle Wiltjer (Gonzaga) were named to the Senior CLASS All-America second team.

To be eligible for Senior CLASS All-America honors, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Brogdon earned his undergraduate degree in history in August of 2015 and is pursuing his master’s in public policy from the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. He has earned ACC Honor Roll and UVA Athletic Honor Roll recognition.

Brogdon has dedicated much of his free time to improving his community and the lives of others. He has volunteered as a reader and mentor to fifth-grade students at Broadus Elementary School in Charlottesville and served as a mentor at the Charlottesville Boys and Girls Club. He helped build a house for Habitat for Humanity and has visited patients at local hospitals and children at elementary schools. In addition, he represents the Virginia Men’s Basketball program at most community functions.

Brogdon, a consensus first-team All-American, is the first player in history to be named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season. He earned NABC defensive player of the year honors after spearheading the Cavaliers’ second-ranked defense that allowed just 60.1 points per game. Brogdon, a three-time All-ACC first team selection and two-time All-American, finished his career ranked ninth at UVA with 1,809 points and is ranked first in Cavaliers’ history for free throw shooting at 87.6 percent.
