Lyndhurst man arrested in fatal hit-and-run

A Lyndhurst man is dead and another man is under arrest following a fatal hit-and-run in Augusta County Tuesday night (Jan. 29). The crash occurred at 8:10 p.m. in the 800 block of Mt. Torrey Road/Rte. 664.

A 2007 Urban Classic moped was traveling north on Mt. Torrey Road when it was struck by a passing vehicle. The vehicle then fled the scene. The operator of the moped, Keith E. Cox, 47, of Lyndhurst, died at the scene. Cox was wearing a helmet.

Thanks to the assistance of the Wilson Volunteer Fire Department, which had responded to the scene, Trooper J.G. O’Gorek was able to track down the suspect vehicle at a residence in Lyndhurst. Further investigation by the trooper led to the driver of that vehicle, Robert J. Wilkenson, 53, being charged with one felony count of hit-and-run.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
