Lynchburg: Juvenile in custody for May shooting that killed gamer

juvenile wanted LPD shooting suspect 050625 A juvenile is in custody for the murder of a 25-year-old Lynchburg man, killed while playing a video game online with friends.

The Lynchburg Police Department apprehended the wanted 17-year-old male suspect in Campbell County on Monday.

The juvenile was wanted in connection to the May 6 shooting death of Zaykeese Amarius Brown, an avid gamer and former basketball player at E.C. Glass High School.

The juvenile boy has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Second degree murder (§ 18.2-32)
  • Shooting in the commission of a murder (§ 18.2-53)
  • Robbery (§ 18.2-58)
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (§ 18.2-53.1)
  • Burglary with the intent to commit murder, rape, robbery, or arson (§ 18.2-90)

Police released video footage of the suspect in the shooting, which took place in the 2000 block of Bedford Avenue, asking for the public’s help identifying the individual.

According to police, Brown was found with a life-threatening gunshot wound after his friends arrived to check on him after he suddenly stopped communicating with them in a chat room while playing a video game.

Life-saving measures were performed, but Brown was pronounced dead upon arrival at Lynchburg General Hospital. He had a chest wound, believe to be from a gunshot, according to police.

The juvenile is being held at the Lynchburg Regional Juvenile Detention Center pending trial.
