Lt. Gov. Northam applauds McAuliffe’s veterans services budget proposal

ralph northamLt. Gov. Ralph Northam released the following statement in response to Governor McAuliffe’s budget proposal to provide $13 million for education, healthcare and other services for returning veterans and their families.

“I applaud the Governor for prioritizing the needs of Virginia’s veterans in the state budget. Virginia is home to the fastest growing population of veterans in the entire country, and the Commonwealth should be a welcoming place for each and every one of them and their families.

As a former Army doctor who treated soldiers during Desert Storm, I am particularly glad the Governor will invest in a new program to connect returning military medics and corpsmen to healthcare jobs. Currently, these highly-skilled and experienced men and women may have to spend two or more years out of work while they seek civilian credentials. That’s no way to treat our veterans who have put their lives on the line for our safety.

I look forward to working with the Governor and the General Assembly to ensure this investment is included in the final budget.”
