stony brook led 24-13 at the half, but JMU rallied to take the lead on a 76-yard pass from Vad Lee to Brandon Ravenel and held on from there to post a 27-24 win on Saturday.
James Madison (7-3, 4-2 CAA) rolled up 514 yards of total offense, 370 from Lee, who threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns and added 56 yards on the ground, but it was stony brook (4-6, 3-3 CAA) that got up early, going up 24-10 with 1:49 to go in the first half on a Marcus Coker 5-yard TD run.
Lee led the Dukes down the field in the two-minute drill to set up a Ryan Maglio 24-yard field goal on the final play of the half that made it 24-13 and gave JMU some momentum heading into the locker room.
The second half was all Madison. JMU scored quickly on its first drive of the second half, with a Lee 1-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Brown capping a five-play, 61-yard drive that cut the deficit to 24-20. The pass from Lee to Ravenel capped another quick drive in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, after the Dukes had been pinned back on a punt to their own 9 yard line.
