Students in Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley seeking a fast track to a career in information technology will have more options at National College in Charlottesville and Harrisonburg (www.national-college.edu) this fall, thanks to the introduction of new programs and a thorough re-design of existing program curricula. New programs include career training in network administration and software development & engineering.
“We periodically re-tool our information technology programs to keep them up-to-date and relevant to workforce needs,” said Tom Jackson, institutional director of IT programs for National College. “The two new associate degree programs – in network administration and software development and engineering – will give graduates more choices in specific IT sub-fields, as well as the opportunity to earn more specialized industry certifications.”
In addition to the revamped associate degree curricula, National College’s affiliated institution, American National University, is introducing a bachelor’s degree in network administration that will add advanced preparation in cloud computing, collaboration and messaging services, unified communications (UC), and integration of Linux based devices. “Together with the new associate and bachelor’s degree programs in cybersecurity that we launched this summer, National College will offer a suite of programs that will allow students to progress in their careers with programs matched to the requirements of today’s—and tomorrow’s—workforce,” said Jackson. The bachelor’s program will be offered beginning this fall at American National University’s Roanoke Valley campus and through online classes.
Planned for early 2014, the addition of a bachelor’s degree program in software development and engineering will further expand National College’s concept of “progressive learning” that provides students with the educational level needed throughout their career. Graduates seeking entry-level positions can pursue short-term diplomas or associate degrees; bachelor’s degrees for progression to higher levels of responsibility; and master’s degrees for supervisory and management roles. This program will also be offered through American National University Online.
All programs benefit from the hallmarks of the National College educational approach: small class sizes, individual attention, instructors with real-world experience who teach the skills needed in today’s workforce.
