The City of Waynesboro is beginning the process of updating its comprehensive plan to develop a renewed vision for the River City.

As part of its public engagement effort, a community open house will be held on June 18 at Waynesboro High School. Additional community meetings, surveys, stakeholder discussions and interviews will be announced.

The timeline for developing the plan will take approximately two years, concluding in early 2027.

The plan will shape city policies and help guide local decision-making for the next two decades.

“Your community development department staff is excited to connect in a meaningful way with the citizens of Waynesboro through this process,” said Leslie Tate, director of community development. “While we often engage with citizens during specific public hearings, this affords us a unique opportunity to do some visioning and long-term planning that will shape Waynesboro in the years and decades to come.”

The open house will take place for three hours on June 18 starting at 4:30 p.m. at 1200 W. Main St. Anyone wishing to provide feedback is welcome anytime in the three-hour window ending at 7:30 p.m.

There will be informational posters and interactive stations designed to highlight some of the city’s most urgent needs.
