washington nationalsAn Albert Almora RBI double broke a 3-3 ninth-inning tie to lift the Chicago Cubs to a 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.

Before a sellout crowd at Nationals Park, the Cubs (44-19) led most of the way, but the Nats (40-25) tied the game in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Rendon (.259/.301/.406).

Almora, who entered the game on a double-switch in the eighth inning, drove in the winning run with his fourth hit of the season in the ninth off Washington reliever Sammy Solis (1-2, 1.71 ERA).

Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez (3-5, 3.96 ERA) got a no-decision, going six and a third innings, giving up three runs on five hits, striking out nine and walking four.

Cubs starter John Lackey (7-2, 2.66 ERA) gave up two runs on four hits in six-plus innings, striking out seven and walking two.
