LGBTQ+ community members and allies are invited to take part in a celebration of the 10th anniversary of gay marriage on Sunday in Charlottesville.

The first same sex marriage in Charlottesville was officiated 10 years ago on October 6 with vows exchanged between André Hakes and Catherine Gillespie just minutes after the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond made gay marriage legal in Virginia.

Judge Claude V. Worrell and Circuit Court Clerk Llezelle Dugger will commemorate the occasion at the Circuit Court at 315 E. High St. from 3-4 p.m.

Following the commemoration, there will be an afterparty from 5-8 p.m. at Firefly Restaurant where attendees may celebrate love with food, music, games and more.
