The James Madison women’s basketball team begins its Colonial Athletic Association title defense onSunday, Jan. 4, 2015 when the Dukes host Towson in their CAA opener at the JMU Convocation Center, as the league announced the 2014-15 conference slate on Tuesday.
JMU plays the first two games of the 18-game CAA slate at home, welcoming UNCW on Jan. 6, before hitting the road for three straight. The Dukes head north to Northeastern on Jan. 9 before moving south to William and Mary on Jan. 11.
The Dukes wrap up the road trip on Jan. 15 with their first venture to Elon in program history. They have faced the Phoenix just once before, a 68-56 loss at home on March 9, 1974.
On Jan. 18 JMU returns home to face Drexel and on Jan. 22 William and Mary comes to the Convo. The Dukes head to Charleston on Jan. 25 before closing out the month with Elon at home on Jan. 30.
Another three-game road trip gets underway on Feb. 6 at Hofstra before a Feb. 8 game at Drexel. The trip concludes with a Feb. 12 trip to Towson.
Delaware travels to Harrisonburg on Feb. 15 for the first meeting of 2014-15 between the Dukes and Blue Hens. JMU heads to UNCW on Feb. 19 before a two-game home stand against Hofstra (Feb. 22) and Northeastern (Feb. 27).
The Dukes travel to Delaware for their final road trip of the league schedule and return to the Convo to face Charleston in the final game of the CAA regular season slate.
The 10-team CAA tournament runs March 12-15, 2015, at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
In 2013-14, JMU won its first NCAA tournament game since 1991 with a 72-63 victory over No. 6 Gonzaga in the round of 64. It was the ninth consecutive trip to the postseason for the Dukes, who earned both the CAA regular season and tournament titles en route to tying a school record with 29 wins.
JMU returns senior forward Toia Giggetts (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) and junior guard Precious Hall (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay School), both 2014 All-CAA Second Team honorees, as well as redshirt junior guard Jazmon Gwathmey(Bealeton, Va./Liberty H.S.), a 2014 CAA All-Defensive Team honoree.
The Dukes open the 2014-15 season on Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. as they host UCLA at the JMU Convocation Center. Prior to opening weekend, JMU hosts Lenoir-Rhyne on Nov. 9 in an exhibition game.
All CAA game dates and times are subject to change based on television schedules. The finalized schedule will be announced at the league’s basketball media day on October 21 along with full television broadcast information.
For the first time, every conference game will be televised through partnerships with Comcast SportsNet and the American Sports Network, as well as CAA.TV, the conference’s new digital network. All JMU home games are available for free on MadiZONE HD SportsNet, presented by the JMU Alumni Association.
