Boy Scouts using Halloween to collect for Food Bank

Contributors

There’s a different sort of trick or treating going on this Halloween! The Boy Scouts in the Valley and Charlottesville will be “Scouting for Food” this Saturday. Scouts will drop by homes, collect food left by residents at their doorsteps and bring the donations to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

“Scouting for Food” begins early morning and ends late afternoon. Scouts will be dropping off food at our truck at Martin’s in Harrisonburg, in addition to our main Food Bank locations in Verona and Charlottesville.

Here are the details:
– This is the second largest food drive of the year for the Food Bank and the donations we receive during this drive carry us through the holidays. Last year, the Boy Scouts Food Drive brought in more than 74,000 pounds of food for the hungry across our Network! That’s equal to nearly 60,000 meals.
– We are relying on the community to help us once again for the holiday season, so every donation is vital. Tough times have been hard on many of our clients, and we’ll be helping lots of new people in need this season. If you could let your audience know about this special food drive this evening and tomorrow, we’d be extremely grateful.
– Residents should leave their grocery bag of food on their doorstep/porch first thing Saturday morning filled with non-perishable food items. IF THEY MISS THE BOY SCOUTS, THEY MAY DROP OFF DONATIONS AT THE FOOD BANK. For a list of our most needed food items, click here.
