Albemarle County parking information, preparations for August 10-12 weekend

Albemarle County Office Buildings will close at 2:00 p.m. on Friday to transition for the possible use of buildings in support of the regional partnership surrounding the August 10-12 weekend.

For visitors to County Office Building-McIntire, this means no traffic or parking will be permitted starting Friday at 2:00 p.m. through Monday at 6:00 a.m. Visitors will be given time to clear the parking lots once the building closes, however, any vehicles remaining in the parking lot after 7:00 p.m. are subject to ticketing and towing.

PLEASE NOTE: Citizens will not be able to access both the payment drop box in the upper visitor lot of County Office Building-McIntire nor the 24/7 payment kiosk after 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, August 13. After this upcoming weekend, only the 24/7 payment kiosk will be accessible after business hours via Preston Avenue.

On Wednesday, County Executive Jeff Richardson followed suit with Charlottesville City and the State of Virginia and declared a local emergency for the County of Albemarle. The emergency declaration is in anticipation of the County’s need to play an active support role this weekend.

In addition to the traffic restrictions specific to the August 10-12 weekend, the local emergency declaration introduced regular changes to parking regulations of Albemarle County Office Buildings, which will remain in place for the duration of the declared local emergency.

Parking at County Office Building-McIntire will be closed to the public on the following schedule:

• Weekdays – 10:00 p.m. through to 6:00 a.m. the following morning
• Weekends – 10:00 p.m. Friday through to 6:00 a.m. Monday

All visitor parking spaces will be reserved for official County business use only, during regular business hours.

The parking lot entrances at County Office Building-5^th Street will also be restricted in accordance with the above guidelines, but entrances will not be cordoned off to accommodate 24-hour access to the County Police Department.

New signs outlining these regulations will be posted in the parking lots.
