UVA Football: Don’t count on Jacob Holmes, Cazeem Moore being available this season

The Jacob Holmes-Cazeem Moore story has taken a predictable twist, with the two UVA Football alums apparently back on the outs in the wake of a federal appeals court ruling.

The appeals court stayed a lower-court ruling granting an extra year to Class of 2022 student-athletes who had exhausted their college eligibility under NCAA rules in effect into June.

This is where things get complicated, in the stupidest way possible.

Because athletes in states where state courts have ruled that the new NCAA rules that give college athletes five years of eligibility are still good to go, for now, for the coming college sports season.

This would include a number of states in the SoutheastGeorgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Tennessee.

For the likes of Holmes and Moore, though, they’re going to have to pursue their own state-level legal exemption to be able to suit up in the 2026 season.

Of course, they can do that, get an injunction in their favor, get on the field, and then be told by another judge that, sorry, that first judge was wrong – as was the case with how the federal case has been going.

If I’m Tony Elliott, I’m not counting on Jacob Holmes or Cazeem Moore being available this season.
