ACC Bowl Roundup: Virginia Tech to Independence, Florida State gets Peach

ACC_Football_Digital_DBGVirginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer’s final bowl game will come at the site of his first, the Independence Bowl.

The Hokies (6-6) will play Tulsa (6-6) in the Saturday, Dec. 26 game in Shreveport, La.

Beamer’s first bowl appearance came at the end of the 1993 season at the Independence Bowl. The Hokies beat Indiana, 45-20, in that game, which started a streak of 23 seasons for Beamer teams in bowl games.

Tulsa is a member of the American Athletic Conference, and is a division rival of Memphis, whose coach, Justin Fuente, will succeed Beamer at Virginia Tech after the bowl.

Tulsa finished 3-5 in the AAC, including a 66-42 loss to Memphis on Oct. 24.

The Golden Hurricane lost three games to teams that finished in the final regular-season AP Top 25: falling to #3 Oklahoma, 52-38, in Week 3, losing 38-24 to #14 Houston in Week 4, and dropping a 44-21 decision to #21 Navy in Week 11.
