After nearly 20 years of selling books in the Shenandoah Valley, Stone Soup Books in Waynesboro is beginning a new chapter.

As of Feb. 10, founder Mary Katharine Froehlich will welcome a partner, co-owner Janie Rambo.

Stone Soup opened in Waynesboro in 2006 to connect individuals with stories and has been a part of WMRA’s Books & Brews, farm-to-table conferences, local author events and The Writer’s Well, as well as a collaborator with the Blue Ridge Children’s Museum.

“Each experience reinforces for us how our stories are a web of connection across culture, age and time. Stories have the power to buoy us as we seek new knowledge, understanding, solace, laughter and shelter,” Froehlich said.

Rambo moved to the Valley several years ago and has spent several decades as a military spouse. Stone Soup is an opportunity for her to fulfill a lifelong dream.

“I have always loved reading and writing. It has offered a means of creative release and escape since I was a teenager. And since I was a young adult, I have dreamed of running or owning a small bookstore.”

Rambo values honesty, kindness and individuals with whom she can laugh. She found such values during a morning walk when she met Froehlich.

The new partnership will enable the bookstore to expand its book selections and spaces for book clubs, author events, writer’s workshops and author services. The bookstore will be able to provide Waynesboro readers and the surrounding area with a bookstore that offers an exciting array of activities and literary creative experiences, as well as a selection of new and used books.

Stone Soup hopes to hear from the community through a series of online surveys, but personal notes are also welcome.

“We are thankful for where we have been and excited about continuing our visioning  and planning for the next chapter. I continue to be amazed at this beautiful pot of Stone Soup,” Froehlich said.

Stone Soup is at 150 Race Ave., Waynesboro.
