Gov.-elect Terry McAuliffe announces first round of administration appointments

Virginia Gov.-elect Terry McAuliffe announced on Monday his choices for four key senior administration positions: Paul Reagan as Chief of Staff, Suzette Denslow as Deputy Chief of Staff, Secretary Ric Brown, who will stay on through at least the passage of the upcoming budget as Secretary of Finance, and Levar Stoney as Secretary of the Commonwealth.

Williams was named the ACC Offensive Back of the Week after rushing for a league single-game record 339 yards in the Eagles’ 38-21 win over NC State.

Maryland shocks Virginia Tech football, 27-24

C.J. Brown stretched out to touch the ball to the pylon on a 3-yard run in overtime to lift Maryland to a shocking 27-24 overtime win at Virginia Tech on Saturday. The loss puts a serious dent in Virginia Tech’s ACC title hopes. Virginia Tech (7-4, 4-3 ACC) needs a win at Virginia in its season finale in two weeks and still will need some help to get to Charlotte.

Top-Seeded UVa. women’s soccer defeats Saint Francis 5-0 in NCAA tourney

The top-seeded UVa. women’s soccer team opened play in the 2013 NCAA Tournament with a 5-0 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) Friday night in front of 1,611 fans at Klöckner Stadium. Sophomore forward Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) recorded her first career hat trick to lead the Cavaliers (21-1) into the second round.
