Mark Warner (D-VA) led a group of Senators in introducing bipartisan legislation to ensure volunteer firefighters and other first responders can continue protecting communities that rely on them. Some volunteer firefighters are nominally paid, and most volunteer first responders have other full-time employment.

Heisman Trophy finalist Jameis Winston of Florida State leads the 2013 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Football Team, as selected by the league’s 14 head coaches. Winston was one of three unanimous first-team selections to the All-ACC team. He was joined by national rushing leader and fellow Heisman finalist Andre Williams of Boston College and Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

Florida State has two Heisman Trophy winners in its storied history. Jameis Winston now has the chance to forever place his name alongside ‘Noles greats Charlie Ward and Chris Weinke. Winston, FSU’s redshirt freshman quarterback, was named one of six finalists for the 2013 Heisman Trophy Monday night.

With top-ranked Florida State, the Atlantic Coast Conference champion, leading the way, the ACC will place an NCAA-record 11 teams in bowl games. The total of 11 bowl-bound schools is the most in NCAA history and breaks a single-season mark of 10 bowl teams, originally set by the ACC in 2008.

E-Tech Lumberjack Classic MVP Desmond Haymon poured in 21 points to lead Stephen F. Austin to a 70-57 victory over JMU on Saturday evening at SFA’s William R. Johnson Coliseum. JMU dropped its sixth straight contest to stand at 2-8 on the season.

Red light traffic cameras are now live and operational in the City of Richmond, and drivers that violate a red light traffic signal at the intersection of Hull Street Road and Elkhardt Road will be subject to a $50 citation. This is the first red light camera for the city, but will likely not be the last.
